Helping you Choose the Right Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) Tool

The GET Sh*t Done Guide

In our last guide – we explained the fundamentals of Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO). We also touched on CRO tools, otherwise known as “experimentation platforms.” There are many tools out there, and each of them has a different purpose, a different price point, and a different pro. When choosing a tool, there is much to consider – from optimization to personalization, testing A/B or multivariate, user journey and analytics – the list goes on. Every platform has different features and some even cater to specific verticals.

The purpose of this guide is to provide tips on selecting a testing tool. The process can be complex with many options to consider. We hope this helps provide transparency based on Multiplica’s experience and expertise.

Testing Maturity

When selecting a platform, it depends on business needs, goals and KPIs, who will use it, the type of support offered by the tool, and pricing. In our experience, choosing a platform should depend on the goals and challenges you face in your business, combined with the level of experimentation maturity in your organization. The below diagrams help us better illustrate what we mean by experimentation maturity with those business goals in mind.

levels of experimentation maturity

Is your organization at a testing maturity level 1 or level 5? More importantly, what goals do you want to achieve from the tool and your testing program as a whole? How many tests do you want to run each month? What parts of the process can your internal teams handle, and where might you need external support?

Alignment with Organizational Goals

It’s important to have your internal organizational goals aligned with the tool you choose. For example, if you want to improve personalization on your website, you’ll need to confirm that the tool offers personalization capabilities.

Important questions to ask when talking with your tool provider:

  • What do you want to accomplish with experimentation?
  • What do you require from your experimentation tool and in what order?
  • Does the platform or tool work well with my existing technology stack?
  • Does the tool have wider functionality that could help me in other areas?
  • What kind of support is available since I may/may not have resources?
  • How will I ensure successful implementation?

One final, critical question is:

Does the tool have anything in place to prevent webpage Load Time issues?
